Residential Sharps Disposal
Sharps/Syringe disposal containers are available at no cost the residents of Spencer and Rural Clay County. These are available at the Transfer Station at 3101 W 18th St, Monday-Saturday between the hours of 8 A.M. and 5 P.M..
Return full containers to the transfer station for proper disposal. PLEASE DO NOT DISPOSE OF THEM IN YOUR REGULAR GARBAGE. This program is in effect to protect the employees of the solid waste division and the landfill. Please call 712-580-7270 with any questions.

NOTICE-GRASS & LEAF PICK UP DAY
Tagged Bags of Grass and Leaves Will Be Picked Up On Fridays of Each Week From Now On. Residents Will Need Call Into The Transfer Station To Be Picked Up - Prior To Each Friday.
Residential garbage is picked up as follows: Monday-North of W 4th Street and West of Grand Avenue, Tuesday-North of East 4th Street and East of Grand Avenue, Wednesday South of east and west 4th Streets.
It costs the City approximately $4,000.00 per month to operate and maintain one of our garbage trucks. This does not include the salaries of the drivers! We currently have two automated residential trucks, two commercial trucks, a cardboard truck semi, two transfer trailers, two roll-off trucks and various other equipment. Two full time mechanics service the vehicles at our Street Division's shop.

"YEAR ROUND" Hours Of Operation Will Be As Follows, Effective April 1, 2013:
7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday-Saturday
ALL VEHICLES ENTERING THE TRANSFER STATION MUST "STOP" AT FRONT OFFICE BEFORE DUMPING
All Commercial Businesses and Contractors are Required to STOP at the Front Office and Pay for Garbage or Construction Materials Brought to the Transfer Station.
There is a Charge for ALL Construction Materials Brought to the Transfer Station by Residents, Commercial Businesses and Contractors.
Effective January 1, 2008, the solid waste transfer station will charge a $10.00 fee for any untarped or unsecured load that enters the facility. This applies to all vehicles that intend to dump at the facility including household garbage and loose bags of garbage. This charge will be in addition to any charges for dumping.
It will be at the discretion of the transfer station attendant to determine whether a load is not secured or not tarped.
Exceptions to the rule: White goods, large pieces of furniture and electronics do not need to be tarped, but must be secured.
Trash cans with lids do not need to be tarped but must have the lid secured in order to keep trash from leaving the container.
This is being put in effect in an effort to help keep our ditches and streets free of debris that may fall or blow out of a vehicle in route to the transfer station.
The City would also like to encourage the use of tarps and or straps to secure loads going to the tree and grass site.
